S'west Sharia Panels not for criminal matters – Ogun Imam

The boss Imam of Albarka Islamic Society of Nigeria, Abeokuta, the state of Ogun, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, has described the opposition of non-Muslims against the establishment of a Sharia panel in the southwest as unnecessary.

Agboke emphasized that Sharia -Panels have been in the region for a long time and are meant exclusively for Muslims to cope with Islamic and civil matters such as marriage and inheritance – not with criminal matters.

Speak to The blow On the edge of the 17th Prof. Iab Balogun Memorial Lecture in the Bodija Estates and Environ Muslim Community Islamic Center, Ibadan, Agboke pointed out that the founding of Sharia-Panels in the southwest was part of a hidden agenda to Islamise Nigeria.

He made it clear that the Sharia arbitration group serves as a quasi-jurkal body for Muslims.

“The edition of the Sharia committee, especially in the southwest, is not a new thing. It existed in the southwest. There is nothing that should make someone oppose the agitation for its foundation, ”said Agboke.

“In section 275 of the Nigerian constitution, every state must determine. Whether south or north, it can be determined. No state has requested it in the southwest; No governor has set it, while we have reasons for people to contact the Sharia court for questions of Islamic matters. But there is no such platform. Instead, they founded a Sharia arbitration board.

“The Sharia arbitration board is a quasi-lived body, the questions of Islamic matters, civil matters, questions of marriage, divorce, inheritance and noticeably heard about criminal matters. This aspect is confused because Sharia's application is not administered to non-Muslims, ”he added.

He confirmed that until a formal Court of Appeal of the Sharia was set up, which Muslims can operate the Sharia arbitration bodies without resistance.

“For me, I think that it is an unnecessary excitement of non-Muslims to believe that it is an invitation to Islamise Nigeria. No, ”said Agboke.

Agboke gave a lecture entitled “Islam, Muslims and the challenges of being the best community that was raised for humanity,” and asked the Muslims to embody the gods more through actions than by mere words or external phenomena.

In addition, he warned of double standards in Islamic practice and advised the Muslims to avoid unnecessary superiority claims due to sectarian affiliations.
