Swimming pool sets three records at NIC championships

OCALA, Fla. – The Old Dominion swimming team set a trio of records this weekend at the NIC Championships as Gustaf Hansson and Bryce Mortimer set individual records and the 800 freestyle relay team set a new record.

The Monarchs finished 12th overall over the three-day event.

Gustaf Hansson got the Monarchs started with an eighth-place finish in the 50 backstroke with a time of 22.24.

In the 500 free, Grey Bremer took 15th with a time of 4:27.37. Bremer added a 22nd place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:45.92. He also placed 21st in the 1650 free with a time of 16:13.40.  

Zachary Redding nabbed seventh place in the 50 butterfly with a time of 21.52. He added a sixth-place position in the 50 free with a time of 19.88. Redding added another top 10 finish by taking seventh in the 100 free with a time of 43.55.

In the 50 breaststroke, August Eriksson earned a 17th place spot with a time of 25.40.

The 400-medley relay team of Hansson, Mortimer, Jamie Cleaver and Redding came in ninth with a time of 3:13.81.

The 200-medley relay team led Friday off with an eighth-place spot with a time of 1:27.85. Redding’s split time of 18.94 was the first of any swimmer in the event.

Hansson’s time of 47.79 in the 100-backstroke set an ODU record and helped Hansson finish in 11th, winning the B-Final.

Mortimer set the ODU record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.75 to place fifth.

The Monarchs finished the meet with a 15th place finish in the 400 free relay, as the team of Redding, Robby Young, Ben Schattenberg and Ryan Lincicum earned a time of 2:59.37.
