Takeaways as a Florida basketball with Mizzou in the quarter -finals of the SEC tournament

play

  • Florida's coach, Todd Golden, believes that Missouri is a strong team that challenges them and better prepares them for the NCAA tournament.
  • Missouri's leading scorer, Mark Mitchell, left the game on Thursday with a knee injury and his status for the game on Friday is uncertain.

Nashville, Tenn – Florida basketball coach Todd Golden awaited himself again in the quarter -finals of the SEC tournament against Missouri.

Golden actually centered his preparation this week on the Tigers.

The latter landed the right step when Missouri retired with 7 seed in the last minutes to defeat 85-73 Mississippi State 85-73 on Thursday evening in the SEC tournament in the Bridgestone Arena. Senior Guard Tamar Bates scored 25 points to lead the tigers to victory.

On Friday evening (7:00 p.m., Sec Network), it represents a juicy matchup between Missouri No. 7, Missouri (22-10) and the SEC quarter-finals from Florida Gators (27-4).

Missouri provided Florida his only loss of home of the season and beat 83-82 on January 14th in the O'Connell Center.

“You are one of the country's two or three teams in my eyes,” said Missouri coach Dennis Gates. “I think nobody gave them the amount of loan they earn. I don't even know whether they were classified in first place in the country for several weeks, but I know that I look at them like this.

“It was a great atmosphere when we played in Gainesville. Todd Golden, I respect, and I respect their entire program. They are not the same team that they were. I think they got better.”

Golden said on Wednesday that he had welcomed a potential remaining with Missouri because playing a team that prepares the caliber for the NCAA tournament would be prepared for the NCAA tournament.

“This is a sweet 16 -matchup, right there.” Golden said. “Missouri is very good. And yes, I think our boys want to crack another crack, simply because we didn't feel like we had played our best game here – and not taking away anything from Missouri because they played great. They beat us that night.”

Here are three storylines that you can see in the SEC tournament from UF with the Tigers:

Can Florida Basketball stop the Missouri shooter Caleb Grill from being a role?

Grill burned UF in the first matchup between the two teams and scored 22 points at 7-of-11 shooting and 6-von-10 shooting from a 3-point range.

The Point Guard from Florida, Walter Clayton, said the goal is to refuse the basketball grill and limit the number of attempts that he has made.

“He hit some difficult ones when he last played us here,” said Clayton. “So don't let it out.”

The 6-foot 3-grill earned the SIC's sixth man of the year after having scored an average of 14.2 points from the Missouri bank this season. On Wednesday he had a shot against the state of Mississippi, which only went 2 out of 11 from the ground and 1 of 8 out of 3 points for 5 points. But Grill said that he welcomes the challenge to return to the Gator on Friday.

“You have to agree in every game,” said Grill, “I think if you are in a game that is not confident, you have lost your confidence in yourself. No matter what you need to think about how you can help your team and to do trust in yourself to play well.”

Can Florida basketball take better care of the ball with the Tigers in the second matchup?

Missouri scored 18 points in front of 13 Florida sales in the first matchup between the two schools. Clayton has to be strong at this point with the ball, and there must be crispy and against a Missouri team that is an average of 6.6 steals per game and 14.0 sales per game.

What is the status of Missouri striker and the leading goal scorer Mark Mitchell, who goes into the game of Florida?

The 6-foot 9, 230-pound mink, which leads the Tigers at 14.1 points per game, left the Matchup with a knee injury on Thursday evening against the Mississippi state and did not return. His status for the Florida game is unclear at this time.

“Mark knows what he can and what he cannot,” said Gates. “He didn't want to disadvantage his team, is that he was not 100 percent. In the end, he trusted our replacement and depth and simply didn't get back into play.

“For me, the great tour is and we will see what his forecast is.”

forecast

Florida 77, Missouri 70: Florida will take revenge in the season and retire in the second half to beat the tigers and to come to the second tournament for the second time in a row. The depth of UF will play a factor for victory, since Missouri will wear out in his second game in two days.
