Tempe Fire is first equipped in the valley, which is fully equipped, with life -saving heart appliances

Tempe, AZ (Azfamily) – Every year, Tempe Fire Medical Rescue reacts to over 300 demands on cardiac arrest, and most of the time breast compressions are required to keep the patient alive.

While firefighters have the right training that is necessary after a while, the fatigue occurs and these compressions can become less effective.

“You have to make sure that you go to at least half of the patient's chest in half the depth of the patient. You have to make sure you go at a speed of 100 to 120 per minute. You have to make sure that your hands come out of your chest for full recoil so that the heart can fill with blood, ”said deputy chief Kevin Bailey Jr.

All fire cars and ambulances from pages are equipped with Lucas, an automated breast compression device. The agency is the first in the valley to have this critical equipment.

“We see a higher savings rate, and people go with less deficits or without deficits from the hospital, so we are very confident that these devices have an impact,” said Bailey.

First aiders can move and transport the patient, while the device delivers breast compressions for up to 45 minutes, which makes it a player for first aiders and life -saving for the patient.

“In the films, you see that the person is based on the Gurney that presses on the chest. These are not effective compressions. With this device we can continue these compressions, ”he said.
