Texa's forest fires: Fire risk is expected to be continued in spring after 11 acres of a small fire in West Harris County were burned 11 acres

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Wald fires were active in the state last weekend, with over 30 being reported throughout Texas. Owner winds, dry air and drought conditions also enabled what controlled burns can spread in parts of the state.

Four small forest fires appeared in Southeast Texas in the counties in Brazoria, Polk, Walker and Harris. Each had less than 20 hectares and continued quickly.

Monday afternoon Skyeye flew over the burned area in the West Harris County. The Texas A& M Forest Service tells ABC13, the cause of this fire was a waste fire that spread in gusty winds.

The fire jumped from the prescribed combustion area, over a fence and into a nearby grass area.

The meteorologist Elyse Smith, meteorologist from ABC13, collapsed with the dry and warm conditions that will continue this week and possibly until spring when they should be aware of potential fire conditions in Southeast texas.

At the beginning, March is one of the last winter months in Southeast Texas, while we pass to spring from winter.

It is this time of year when cold fronts and storm systems go through and bring these gusty winds. However, the difference this year is the lack of rain both before and in the days, possibly weeks at the front.

So if you are on alert and do not plan any deposits based on the forecast weather conditions.

First, when gusty winds can spread a fire, even a controlled burn. Consistent winds or gusts of 20 miles per hour or more are the minimum for the National Weather Service Office in Houston.

Next, there is a low relative humidity, as after a cold front and brings drier, less damp air either from north or west textas. Combine them with dry floors, vegetation and or drought. Then the fire weather risk increases.

It is also recommended to comply with the regulations of local districts and their internal internal guidelines. Five other counties, including Fayette County, were added to the nationwide combustion ban on Monday. Brazos County is the only other district in Southeast texas with a fire ban on March 17th.

According to the ABC13 partners at Climate Central, it is in spring in which Texans endanger more forest fires.

For decades, data show that Houston's number of hot, dry and windy days on which fire weather could be a risk has increased by one to seven days in this part of the state and in parts of North and West texas by more than a month.

Speaking of which, Tuesday is one of these days with a higher risk of forest fires in the whole state, including parts of Southeast Texas.
