Belle Glade, Florida-Die of the Sheriff of Palm Beach County, reacted to the Covenant Villas Apartment Complex in Belle Glade on Sunday after a 16-year-old was shot.

The Sheriff officers said they reacted to the apartments shortly before 3 p.m., they said that the teenager had been flown to a local hospital, was operated on and was supposed to survive.

They are shootings like this, the residents like Rose Jean-Baptiste worry.

“It is tragic and very sad. I am sad for this family,” said Jean-Baptiste. “I have a 7-year-old daughter. As a mother, I think that nobody has to experience it.”

Jean-Baptiste lives near the shooting scene and said that shots in the neighborhood are unfortunately nothing new.

“It is nowhere safe,” said Jean-Baptiste. “You go to school, you go to church. It's not really safe.”

She is looking for solutions for crime near her house and has installed cameras for safety.

“We need more police officers,” said Jean-Baptiste.

Other neighbors are worried about the children who have been living and playing in the area since the shootout, opposite the hand park, a neighborhood park.

Detectives said they had identified all parties involved, and there is no threat to the community.
