The 4-year-old dies after he found weapons and accidentally shot himself in central florida, says the police, the police say

Davenport, Fla. -News4jax 'partner station in Orlando, News 6 WKMG, reports that a 4-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself with a pistol he found in the family vehicle on Friday, according to Davenport Police.

The Davenport police said in a press release that the officials reacted to Adventhealth Heart of Florida in Haines City around 6:30 p.m.

The boy's parents had driven him there after entering the family vehicle when he prepared for an evening trip, found a hidden pistol and accidentally shot himself, the release says.

On arrival, the boy was flown to a hospital in Orlando in a critical condition, the police said and added that the parents worked together with investigators.

The police department said in an update on Sunday morning that the boy – who was identified as selected Morris – was declared dead on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The update shared on Sunday throws more light on the circumstances of the shootout.

In the family along the Citrus Landing Boulevard, Morris was a father in the toilet and his mother was in her bedroom when she reported to hear a “pop”, and initially believed that one of her children had broken a bit, according to the update. She approached her two other children in the living room and saw that they both were busy with earpods and electronic devices, the update said.

Now looking for Morris, the mother noticed that the interior door led to the garage remained open. The mother entered the garage and found Morris on the family vehicle's driver's seat with a single gunshot wound on the head, the police said and added the hospital that his parents immediately drove him, about two miles away from the house.

Selected was enthusiastic about the family outing, and Detective believes that he had entered the vehicle to wait for the rest of the family when he found the pistol under the driver's seat.

“This is a tragic accident. As a father and grandfather, I cannot imagine what (the parents) is going through. Our prayers are certainly with the (family) because they endure this heartbreaking tragedy, ”said Steve Parker, chief of police from Davenport in a statement.

Detectives have restored the weapon from the vehicle and described it as a pistol of the Smith & Wesson M&P .40, according to the update.

At the time of this report there is no word about potential fees. So News 6 does not call the parents.
