The air force -leaked data on the Chinese secret services: Taiwaner

Taipei [Taiwan]March 13 (Ani): The Department of Defense of Taiwan confirmed a media report that a Major of the Air Force has announced classified documents to Chinese secret service agents in retirement, as reported by the Taipe Times.

The infiltrated information concerned the use of HSIUNG FENG III-Anti-Schiffs rockets by the aircraft and the reactions of Taiwan to Chinese ideas in the nation's air defense zone, Taipei Times reported.

According to Wellington Koo, the Minister of National Defense, the data that was allegedly made available by the former Air Force Pilot Shih Chun-Cheg were academic research from a development phase.

In January 2023, the ministry first received reports from military personnel who were triggered for a joint defense reaction and the coordinated investigation with the military police, explained Koo. He noted that the fact that military personnel reported the leak showed the effectiveness of improvements to the training and the defense of espionage of the armed forces, reported Taipe Times.

In order to further improve the functions of espionage defense, the ministry will continue to raise soldiers on this topic, increase the background reviews for personnel and strengthen the staff in the Military Intelligence Bureau.

According to the Taipei Times, KOO also mentioned that the ministry would assume a model similar to the United States, in which access to confidential information is more based on background reviews, necessity and confidentiality than in rank. In the past, only certain ranks have subjected a special background check, but from now on only people who pass the review are granted access.

Cheng Yi-Cheng, CEO of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, said that it was not expedient to reveal details about the development of HSIung FENG III, but the leak had no influence on ongoing research. The leaked information came from an earlier phase of the project, reported Taipei Times.

In a separate incident with the lost phone of a retired soldier who allegedly landed in China and was triggered in Sina Weibo, Koo confirmed that the photos on the phone had been approved for the public liberation and that the device had been reported as lost.

According to groups, the leaked pictures showed groups from line, civil servant names, photos of the 137th brigade and the contact information of the 8th army corps.

In addition, Koo emphasized the effectiveness of the mobile devices management systems of the armed forces, which prevented the functions of the device and prevented further sensitive information. (Ani)
