The Attorney General of the State of New York rejects the criminal complaint against the Troy police after a fatal encounter in 2023

The Office of the General Prosecutor of New York, TISCH JAMES, will not raise any criminal charges against members of the Troy Police Department after the death of a city man in 2023.

Woody Smith was arrested by the police, who responded to a report on the violation on October 13.

The General Prosecutor's office for special investigations checked the camera with a police camera, which shows Smith's short fight with the police in front of his handcuff breed and no longer reacted. Emergency aid was administered at the scene.

A medical examination found no evidence of suffocation and found that Smith died of a combination of acute drug poisoning, existing health conditions and efforts during his fight with the police.

In an explanation, James' office said: “While the fight between the officials and Mr. Smith contributed to his death, Osi comes to the conclusion in view of the evidence that there is not enough evidence that the officials have caused Mr. Smith's death . “

The mayor of Troy, Carmella Mantello, and the city's police chief, Dan Dewolf, made a joint explanation on Monday, in which the incident described a “tragic event”. The explanation is partially: “The Troy police authority is still committed to transparency and accountability in its business activity, as shown by the publication of camera-based camera film material in connection with this incident.”
