A grass fire that started in the early Saturday afternoon near Fredericksburg burned an estimated 8,640 acres from 6 p.m., which the evacuations in the Central Texas community spoke.
It is not immediately clear what the fire triggered, but it arrived in the middle of the main fire conditions. The National Weather Service said that a warning for the red flag for western parts of central texas applies until 9 p.m. due to low humidity and strong wind.
A burning ban has also been in force for Gillespie County since March 10.
According to the Fredericksburg Fire and Ems, the Crabapple fire started around 1 p.m. north of the downtown of Fredericksburg. In a press release published after 5 p.m., the department said that the fire had moved east via Highway 16 North.
With some evacuations registered from 3:10 p.m., the department now calls on everyone between the Autobahn and the FM 1361 as well as between the Ranch Road 1323 and the Ranch Road 2721. It also added that there was 16 protection in the Faith Baptist Church on 3022 n State Highway.
According to Lynn Bizzell, fire chief of Fredericksburg, there is currently no containment of the fire.
Bizzell's crews work on site and, according to the press release, receive air support from the Texas A&M Forest Services and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
“The embers currently fly up to half a mile and cause more fires in the area,” said Bizzell in the press release. “Our resources work on the protection of the structures.”
So far there have been no official reports about structural damage or losses.
Rauch, from which it is assumed that he came out of the fire, could also be seen in Austin, the city's fire brigade said in a social media post shortly after 3:45 p.m. in a social media post
According to the Texas A&M Forest Services, 32 fires will be burned in Texas on Saturday evening.
