The cost of the spring break reaches the record levels in 2025

It has never been more expensive to go on vacation during the spring holidays.

This year the average trip from March 12th to 21st is the top period for the school days of $ 8,306. That is more than twice what it cost in 2019 and 26% more than last year, according to Squaremouth in Florida, a travel insurance comparison engine.

To crack these numbers, Squaremouth examined the value of 6,000 trips from February 20 to April 15, 2025.

This explains why Italy and Japan are among the most popular options for Squaremouth for the spring holidays this year. The latter is an outlier compared to normal Spring Break targets, says Jenna Hummer, director of public relationships at Squaremouth. The country recently announced that in 2024 it welcomed a record agreement of 36.9 million international visitors, of which 2.7 million had been in America to 58% since 2019.

And while the cheap exchange rates of the yen help to bring tourism to Japan, it is also possible that the popularity of this goal overall increases the spring interruption costs: the average insured trip there costs just under 10,000 US dollars.

“People want to take some of these big trips that they have thought about shortly before 2020,” says Hummer. Warm-weather destination Mexico, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic-Sind of several years of decisions that are gained in popularity, and fewer Americans travel to Antarctic and Iceland than in years.

Rising hotel and flight costs

Hotel prices have been increasing since 2019 and there is still no sign that this is stopped. Data from the Global Provider Costar of Real Estate Analyzes for Bloomberg show in all important markets that were highlighted by Squaremouth for the spring holidays, considerable jumps of the average daily prices from 2019 to 2024. By 2024, the average costs for a luxury hotel room on the Bahamas were already 58% to 623.75 USD per night increased. Book now for March and the average costs of a five-star hotel will be $ 1,049, according to Google. (Costar does not publish any future -oriented price data.) In the Dominican Republic, prices rose by 67% to $ 362 in the same period. Google shows average prices of 587 US dollars in the rooms that remain for this year's break.

The good news is that other travel expenses have started to rejuvenate. According to Ryan Saylor, director of product marketing for holiday rentals for holiday renting management platform, the prices for short -term rent changes show in the course of the year.

Airlines are still limited in their ability to lend capacity to the places where people want to go because new aircraft from Airbus SE and Boeing Co. remain scarce. But flight prices have hardly moved. Inland flights for spring breaks are now an average of 280 US dollars, which, according to Hopper, is increased by 4% compared to 2024. The average return flight ticket for the Caribbean and Mexico is now $ 400, which rose by 3% of the previous year.

Hit record rates

It is not too late to use a variety of proven hacks that can alleviate the blow of spring interruption costs.

To get the best flight prices, Hopper recommends in the first two weeks. At the time of the publication, a direct jetblue flight that connects New York with Punta Cana cost $ 537 touring from 1 to 9 March, while from March 15th to 22nd, the same flight was listed at $ 638.

If you leave on a Saturday and return the week, you can shave up to $ 100 from your ticket.

If short -term rentals offer a better value than hotels, you can maximize the savings by selecting a goal where there is still a lot of availability. According to Saylor, Las Vegas and Miami fall into this category, whereby the average daily prices in both markets offer small discounts during the year. Avoiding popular destinations is ultimately the best strategy OB you want to save in hotels, houses or the cost of increasing the increase. Among the spots underestimated this year that Hopper underestimates this year are Barbados (where they can fly from New York for only $ 24), San Diego (where Cross-Country flights can be found for less than $ 200) and Belize City. It also calls Asheville, a magnetic goal that tries to regain visitors when it continues his back rim from hurricane Helene.
