The jury's selection should begin on Monday in the trial against a landlord of Plainfield

The landlord allegedly stabbed his tenant Hanan Shaheen and her 6-year-old son Wade Al Fayoumi in one case that attracted national attention, with the boy a symbol of anti-Palestinian violence.

The 73-year-old Joseph Czuba guilty of three cases of murder attempt, two cases of heavy battery and two cases of hate crimes, has guilty compared to three cases of first degree. Czuba was instructed to stay in the Will County prison while waiting for the process.

On Thursday, a judge can make a decision.

In October 2023, according to Will County's prosecutors, Czuba became increasingly paranoid over the war in Gaza Strip.

His wife told the detective that Czuba “believed that he was in danger and [his tenant, Shaheen] I would call Palestinian friends to come and harm them, ”said the prosecutors in previous hearings.

He was also concerned about a “National Day of Jihad” on October 13th and allegedly told his wife that according to the public prosecutor, it would happen without further specifications without further specifications if nothing happened that day.

On the morning of October 14, 2023, Czuba supposedly knocked on the door to the family unity and, according to prosecutors, began to argue with Shaheen over the Middle East.

According to the prosecutors, Shaheen joined a phone in a bathroom, but could not bring her son. She called 911 and told a dispatcher that “the landlord kills her baby with a knife,” said prosecutor.

Officials arrived and found the boy lying on a bed without a shirt, the prosecutors said.

According to the Will County Sheriff's Office of Will County, he was stabbed 26 times.

Thousands of services and vigils visited in the following days to honor Wadeee. Family and parishioners gathered again in October 2024 for a memory ceremony, one year after the attack.

“They were selected almost random to represent all of us, and in this sense we were all stabbed that we were all wounded, we were all killed” Islamic relationships on that day, said during the ceremony.

In addition to criminal proceedings, Wadee's family has submitted a lawsuit against Czuba, his wife, brother and its ownership management companies.
