The EU Parliament was carried out by corruption examination in connection with Chinas Huawei | shaken | Crime messages

The Belgian authorities indicate arrests of several people in connection with alleged bribery within the parliament.

As part of a corruption investigation, which focused on the European Parliament and the Chinese technology company Huawei, the police arrested the Belgian authorities.

The suspects, which were allegedly involved in the “active corruption” within the European Parliament for Huawei, were arrested in 21 premises in Belgium and Portugal, the public prosecutor's office in Belgium announced on Thursday.

“Corruption is said to have been practiced regularly and very discreetly from 2021 to the present, under the guise of commercial lobbying and taking various forms, such as remuneration for political positions or excessive gifts such as food and travel expenses or regular invitations,” said the office of the public prosecutor.

Investigators are of the opinion that the illegal payments in financial streams associated with the conference costs were “confused” to disguise their true purpose, according to the public prosecutor.

“From this point of view, the investigation is also aimed at recognizing evidence of money laundering, as it may be,” said the public prosecutor.

According to the raids, a judge ordered that the case in the offices of two parliamentary assistants in the headquarters of the EU Parliament in France's Strasbourg should place in the EU Parliament, the public prosecutor added.

The prosecutors said that they could not disclose further details, including the identity of the suspects, what the innocence and the integrity of the investigation considered.

Huawei and spokesman for the EU Parliament did not immediately respond to the inquiries from Al Jazera for comments.

The probe comes less than three years after several EU legislators and adjutants have been involved in a suspected bribery scandal in which officials from Qatar and Morocco were involved.

Five current and former MPs – Greece's Eva Kaili; Italy's Pier Antonio Panzeri and Andrea Cozzolino; And the Belgian Marc Tarabella and the Marie Arena were charged in this case.

Panzeri completed a plea in 2023 with prosecutors in which he recognized his participation in corruption.

None of the other four were convicted.

In this case, the Qatarian and Moroccan governments rejected any misconduct.
