The examination was opened to robbery, which was recorded on video

Ansonia – The city police say that they examine a robbery on Saturday that was recorded and published on social media.

The police authority of Ansonia said on Monday in a post on Facebook that the robbery took place at 11:40 p.m. in front of the town, a restaurant and a lounge in East Main Street. They said the complainant reported that he was involved in a motor vehicle accident, and the driver of the other vehicle started and took his wallet and phone.

“During the subsequent investigation, the department was informed that there was a video on the social media of the incident,” they said. “The complainant was not injured during the robbery. We are currently pursuing leads to identify all the people involved in the incident.”

Wayne Williams, chief of police from Ansonia, said the department received numerous tips for the incident and followed them. He said a video about the incident orbits social media and asked people not to share it.

“We would encourage people not to share this video that repeats the victim in this case and sensationalized the ridiculous actions of the participants,” he said.

Instead of recording “this robbery of a defenseless victim”, the responsible citizens should call 911. He said several patients of the bar were in front of the place when they watched the incident, but nobody called the police or helped the victim.

“We are better than that,” he said.
