The family considers candlelight vigil for men who were killed in an officer

Sioux City (Ktiv) – Friends and Family members of the man, who was shot by Sioux City police officers last weekend, came together to a vigil near candlelight to remember their beloved people.

About 50 people were in the vigil in the 18th St. and the Grandview Boulevard to remember the 30-year-old Vicente Manzo Hernandez.

They lit candles, said a group prayer and left balloons.

“I ask for justice. Because it wasn't fair what they did to my son. And unjustly accused him of. I ask God to help us and I want to raise the voice before everyone because they have judged it like a criminal. They made him look like a villain, but it is the opposite. My son wasn't like that. I ask God for justice, ”said Hernandez 'Mother Lidia Hernandez.

Hernandez 'sister Amanda Manzo says he is her protector.

“He was the one who said I will always be there for you. He was our older brother. We are three girls. So now we have who will protect us, you know, ”said Manzo.

Hernandez 'Cousin Olivia Padron asks the community for their support.

“This is the greatest loss in the Hernandez family. The family needs many prayers and donations to send our family back to Mexico so that he can have a reasonable funeral, ”said Padron.

His girlfriend, Star Kohn, says that Hernandez had gone through a lot and wished that he could have received help.

“He was a really good guy. And he had a lot to fight with many things like legal addiction. I think he could just have got help instead of perhaps being molested or judged, ”said Kohn.

Padron says that this time is extremely difficult for the family.

“It is currently difficult at this time. And we ask for the community to report and we ask for all the help we can get at this point. We need justice. And the shootings have to stop, ”said Padron.

Hernandez was the passenger in a car that was stopped at the police early Saturday morning and Grandview.

Sioux City Police said Hernandez, who had an arrest warrant for his arrest, opposed the arrest.

At some point, an officer released her arms striking Hernandez.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation takes over the investigation of the official with shootings. The officials involved are currently on paid administrative leave.

In an e -mail, the Sioux City Police Department said that it “fully worked with the DCI examination and believes in transparency in critical incidents. These examinations can take a lot of time and we apply for patience if our department deals with this challenging situation. The examination of this official concerned shooting very actively and permanently. The department will publish further information after the examination has been completed. “
