The football club “Life Change” helps men to lose more than 66 stone

A football club in Eastleigh has helped its players to lose more than 66 stone in the course of last year.

Man V Fat Football Club is an initiative for weight loss, with which overweight and obese men with a body mass index (BMI) of over 27.5 should lose an undesirable weight due to weekly football and lifestyle coaching sessions.

The players meet every Friday evening at Stoneham Lane Football Complex, where they are weighed before playing a 30-minute game with Six-A-side football.

The total value for weight loss and games of a team then contributes to his position within the entire league of an association.

The data of the public health of England published in April 2023 suggest that 66.4 percent of the adult population in Eastleigh are regarded as overweight or obese.

Sam Mintrim, 24, merged with Fat Eastleigh in July 2024 with almost 14 stone, which he has reduced to 11 stone since then and lost 20 percent of his body weight.

“I had just come back from vacation and looked at pictures of the time and was just so dissatisfied with how I all looked into them,” said Sam.

“I talked to a good friend at work about it and how I had to put together my plot when he mentioned about fat against fat and everything it had done for him.

“He was aware that I used to play football, but I had gained and stopped giving up because of my weight, so I had him help to set up. It was great because we had to be assigned to the same team and so my journey started. “

He added: “Before entering, I was at the lowest point of my life.

“My weight was increased due to many personal problems and my coping mechanism was to eat food. I ordered four or five snack bars a week and live alone so that I had initiated myself.

“I was stuck in an EAT cycle to be happy. I never thought that the connection between a healthy lifestyle and mental health would be so strong, and since then my life has changed completely to the better. “
