  • Nick Bigica returns to the soccer team of the Golden Gate High School after a one -year break.
  • Bigica previously resigned after a recruitment impact that led to a six-game suspension.

After resigning as a Cheffußball coach in 2023, Nick Bigica Golden Gate wanted to love the program as much as he did.

“It's not about victories and the losses. It's about children and the program,” said Bigica at the time.

After a year he returned to lead the titans.

Bigica was hired last week as the sixth head coach of the program and will try to return the Golden Gate after a 1-8 season under Nick Citro to the relevance of County that had resigned after a season. Bigica is the third head coach in the history of Collier County, who returns to a school in which he once trained, and followed Lelys Merv Ward (1984-94, 2000-02) and Naples' Bob Bentley (1985-87, 1991-92). The titans went in his first use from 2019 to 2023 24-26.

“It was some time away,” said Bigica. “I never really had the feeling that it was a vacation. I was still part of the Golden Gate community all the time. I still came to almost every sporting events. I helped with the coach of football this year. Our football team won the district. I try to be so much of the Golden Gate community as they would be very gracious to me.”

Bigica resigned after a historic season 2023, to which the CCAC title won for the first time and won the program's first playoff game. However, the 2023 season was also involved in controversy, which was partly due to an examination that he and the former defense coordinator PJ Gibbs had improper contact with the mother of a LY player, which led to a six-game suspension for Bigica and a two-game suspension for Gibbs. Both coaches were allowed to work with the team during the week during training, but were suspended by game nights.

While Bigica wants to build his employees, he will have a long -time head coach with him in Rich Dombroski who was recently an assistant to Barron Collier before serving Bonita Springs as a founding trainer at the end of 2010.

“He brings a lot to the table,” said Bigica. “He has knowledge of knowledge and has trained much longer than me. The knowledge he brings is great, and he takes care of children and wants to be here … I love to have ex-head coaches in the staff. They understand what the job is.

The titans will start on May 21 with a spring game and take over another team in Aubrey Rogers, which has built up from scratch. It will be a young group on the Golden Gate, with over 50 newcomers and in the second year who have to get used to playing against high school students.

“It's almost like being back in 2019,” said Bigica. “I look forward to the challenge. I love the process. I love the process and love to build it. One of the most rewarding things for me is to build something and build it in something great that we did once, and I hope that I can do it again. I just love this process more than anything.”
