The former fire chief of Lakewood does not advocate a competition to steal thousands from the fire brigade's non -profit organization

Lakewood, Wisconsin (Wbay) – the former head of the fire department in Lakewood has not submitted seven of the almost two dozen charges with which he had stolen money.

Christopher Thomson was accused of stealing almost 100,000 US dollars from the fire brigade's non -profit organization.

Thomson took part in front of the Oconto Court Court on Wednesday and was then found guilty.

After a criminal complaint, Christopher Thomson was appointed fire chief of the Lakewood Fire Department in 2022 and served in this role until May 13, 2024 when he was transferred to the unpaid administrative leave by the Lakewood Town Board. Thomson resigned shortly after the placement.

In September 2024, the authorities of the district of Oconto were invited to investigate a allegations of the interpretation of the Lakewood Fire Department Association (LFDA) funds.

The LFDA is a non -profit organization that was created to procure donations for the fire department of Lakewood. Thomson was also the treasurer of this organization.

“Christopher tried to use his belonging to LFDA to keep the connections to the members of the fire department of Lakewood, which was transformed into a constant struggle for the Lakewood Fire Department business,” says the criminal complaint.

In the complaint, the President of the LFDA of the Board of Directors said that he asked Thomson to return the LFDA checkbook and the records and Thomson, “a litany of excuses” so as not to return it. After the law enforcement was threatened with the inclusion of law enforcement authorities, the criminal complaint said that Thomson had returned the checkbook, but the income was missing.

In a later conversation that was found in the criminal complaint, Thomson began to “cry” and that he “stupid” and “shouldn't have done it”. He admitted that he had taken thousands of dollars and claimed that he would pay it back.

The complaint states that Thomson had not returned any money from November 13, 2024. The complaint states that Thomson took around 90,516.58 USD from February 17, 2020 to October 31, 2024.

In a letter from Aktion 2 News submitted to the Oconto County Court, Christopher Thomson said partially: “I know what I did wrong, I'm so angry about myself. I tried to make ends meet and support my family. If I could go back in the past, I would prevent myself from making a really big mistake. “

A hearing for conviction is planned for May 5th.
