The free hairstyles of the Chicago High Schooler are viral

A student of the West Side in Chicago uses her talent to give classmates a boost of trust – one hairstyle after another.

Jessica Thurmond, junior at the North Lawndale College Prep, spends her school breaks to braid, style and change hair for students without changing for pupils who cannot afford a professional look.

What we know:

The 17 -year -old Thurmond decreased for the first time with only 8 years. Now she has a full list of paying customers on weekends, but during school hours her skills are only love work.

She has transformed a school pool into a pop-up salon and works between the classes to help the students do their best.

Your work has not been unnoticed. Videos of their hairdressing sessions have become viral on Tikke and Instagram and have achieved millions of views.

With a phone in one and a comb in the other hand, she has become a social media sensation while concentrating on her craft.

“I don't think Jessica understands how much she is living out the mission and vision of the preparation of the North Lawndale College when we say that we will be transformative, right? That is a transformative thing,” said Kyera Bradley, director of the North Lawndale College Prep.

Big Picture View:

Thurmond's story is more than just hair – it's about community, creativity and generosity. She hopes that the school will present cosmetology courses before she graduates, but regardless of what happens, she plans to continue using her talent to help others.
