The government is calling for the police to request prosecutors synergy in criminal proceedings

The Attorney General of the State of Lagos, Lawal Pedro (SAN), emphasized the need for a harmonious work relationship between law enforcement authorities and prosecutors in the state.

Pedro made this call during an annual withdrawal with the topic “Criminal judicial administration: a perspective on the role of the judicial, public prosecutor's and law enforcement authorities in the functioning of the Mobile Court of Lagos”, which took place in the state in the state last week.

Pedro emphasized that prosecutors who visit police formations should receive the same respect as police officers who visit the Ministry of Justice, except in cases in which the official is a suspect.

He said: “There should be a good relationship, synergy and bond between the law enforcement agency and the prosecutor or the public prosecutor because we work towards the same goal. So you have to be able to work together.

“For some reason, I expect the public prosecutor of a judicial ministry to enter into a police education that he should receive the same respect that we will give police officers if they come to our ministry and not be treated shabby, and of course only if this officer is not a suspect.

“But where he came to help with the investigation or even find out the status of an ongoing examination, he must give him a similar respect that we police officers give when they come to the Ministry of Justice. And if that is done, your work will be more smooth, because at the end of the day the police will research. ”

The AG emphasized the networking of the lawyers and the police in criminal justice and stated: “They start with the arrest, examine and at the end of the day, it is the office of the Attorney General that the public prosecutor has.

“So all of your files still come to the Ministry of Justice to receive legal advice. Why do you now deal with civil servants from the general prosecutor's office? ”

In her comments, the coordinator of the mobile court, Arinola Banjoko, highlighted the importance of the mobile court for the issue of judiciary, in particular in the fight against minor crimes and to reduce pitfalls.

She emphasized the need for committed efforts and synergies among the judiciary, law enforcement authorities and prosecutors to ensure that the mobile court remains a credible and efficient institution.

She said: “The Mobile Court is an essential mechanism in the rapid task of the judiciary, especially in combating minor crimes, reducing pitfalls and ensuring the rapid enforcement of laws.

“In order for this system to work optimally, however, it requires the committed efforts and synergies of the judiciary, the law enforcement authorities and the public prosecutor, whose roles maintain the rule of law and promote fair and fair processes.”
