The jury finds Silver jumping in America's Best Wings Shooting Case for

A Silver Spring man was found guilty last week of murder and other charges for a shootout in a White Oak restaurant in 2023, in which a man and another man were injured.

The 34-year-old Markus Dowdy was sentenced to the first degree, bodily harm to the first degree, two charges of using a firearm in a violent crime, illegal possession of a firearm and ruthless threat.

The jury returned her judgment late Friday.

The indictment and conviction are the result of an incident in the America's Best Wings Restaurant in the White Oak Shopping Center on November 4, 2023, where Dowdy killed 34-year-old Marvin Jefferson and injured a second victim.

According to the law firm of the public prosecutor of the Montgomery district, the surveillance video Jefferson shows, which enters the restaurant and approaches Dowdy, who was armed with a weapon. Dowdy then chases Jefferson and shoots several shots. The investigation by Montgomery County's police showed that the defendant and the victim had a prior argument, with Jefferson Dowdy beating, which was convinced that the shootout was an act of retaliation.

Dowdy shot Jefferson three times and injured another victim. While Jefferson was wounded on the ground, Dowdy also pumped him pistol. The window glass was broken, but there were no reports of additional injuries.

Several patrons were in the restaurant while others were outside during the shootout.

“We express our condolences to the victim's family after this senseless loss of life,” said John McCarthy, prosecutor of the state of Montgomery County. “The defendant ruthlessly fired a pistol in the middle of the day in a crowded shopping center. We are grateful that the police from Montgomery County found the accused and thanked our public prosecutor team to secure a conviction that should ensure that he is no longer at risk to our community. “

Dowdy sees his conviction on June 13th up to 125 years in prison.
