The Kenyan police officer who was killed by criminal gangs in Haiti

The multinational security support mission in Haiti suffered its first victim after a Kenyan policeman died when he received treatment for injuries during security operation.

In an explanation on Monday, February 24, 2025 in the morning, commander Geoffrey Otunge of the MSS Force Force said that the official was treated in the Aspen Hospital in Haiti.

“Today, Sunday, February 23, 2025, one of our MSS civil servants from the Kenyan quota was injured in the Artibonite department during an operation in Ségur – Savien. The official was immediately flown to Aspen Level 2 Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries, ”said Otunge in an explanation.

Otunge added that Kenyan police officers have carried out continuous security operations since the MSS mission started and have successfully neutralized several gangs.

This is the first victim of the Kenyan team since their arrival in Haiti on June 25, 2024 to help the Caribbean nation in the fight against criminal gangs.

In the meantime, Kenya used around 800 officers of the 1,000, which are required for the MSS mission in Haiti.

The Kenyan team is part of an unauthorized international force that will consist of 2,500 civil servants from different countries.

There are about 900 police and troops from Kenya, El Salvador, Jamaica, Guatemala and Belize.

This happened after the government of Kenya sent further police officers to Haiti on February 6, 2025 to fight others against criminal gangs.

In the meantime, the United States announced the freezing of over $ 13 million (1.7 billion KSH) for the financing of the multinational security mission in Haiti led by Kenya.
