The legislature only wants to ban football games in Ohio from streaming

While many college football teams and conferences streaming platforms explore as a place for broadcast games, a legislator hopes that the games of Ohio State will ever be shown exclusively on these platforms.

Senator Bill Demora, a Democrat from Columbus, is trying to only be broadcast on streaming platforms in a new piece of proposed legislation.

Demora presented Senate Bill 94, which prevents a university in the state from signing a media contract that streams exclusive games in the future.

It all started when Demora in Ohio State Purdue wanted to watch in 2023, but was not able because the game was only broadcast on the Peacock Streaming platform.

“It was the first time in over 20 years that I couldn't see a football game in Ohio State on a regular channel,” said Demora.

“I refuse to pay all these streaming networks to see the state of Ohio and other sports … Streaming television is not good for sport,” he added.

The state of Ohio, who only played on Peacock, was a first kind because it first marked in 315 competitions that the Buckeyes were not broadcast across the air nationwide.

Demora's proposal would also require the universities in Ohio to agree to a contract with streamers that would enable enrolled students to observe sporting events free of charge.

Whatever legislative measures can be taken to intervene in the streaming economy, it seems that schools and conferences reject more in this direction anyway.

The state of Ohio and its big ten partners earn together in their new television contract, which followed after the realignment, and the stream of these games are a large part of this pact.

As impractical as it may be for consumers to spend more money to watch their teams some of these games, it is now expected that Peacock and Amazon and others are committed and exude these matchups in their services.

And from the perspective of the state of Ohio, the money that earns from its media contract is much more important than the legislator participates in its offers.
