The man dies almost a month after Roanoke's shooting, the police say

A man who was injured at a shootout in February died of his injuries, according to the authorities.

BACKGROUND: On February 9, around 1:55 a.m., the officials answered the 2200 block of the Orange Avenue NW to receive the report on a shootout with injuries.

On arrival they found a 17-year-old male and 47-year-old Thomas Leroy Hairston from Vinton with critical gunshot wounds.

Another man was also with a non -life -threatening gunshot wound.

They were brought to a local hospital for the treatment of critical injuries.

Hairston died later on February 28, 2025.

The officers were later informed about a fourth man who was looking for medical treatment in a local hospital because of non -life -threatening gunfire.

It was found that this man was injured in the same incident.

The preliminary investigation showed that the 17-year-old produced a firearm and shot several victims.

A man then returned fire and shot the 17-year-old.

“At that time, the 17-year-old man was identified as the main suspect,” said RPD. “After consulting the Commonwealth law firm, the indictment becomes pending because of his physical recovery.”
