One of the largest restaurant chains of China has promised to reimburse thousands of customers after a patron that urinated a boiling hotpot, became online viral and triggered a public outcry.

The clip, twisted last month, seemed to show a young man who was standing on a table in a branch in Haidilao in Shanghai, in a boiling broth.

The video triggered an immediate counter -reaction on social media, with users venture in one of the most popular restaurant chains in the country.

Haidilao confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a social media post, said it was “extremely sorry” and legal measures.

“In the early morning hours of February 24, two men urinated after dining in a private room in a Haidilao branch in Shanghai in a hotpot,” said the company, referring to the scratchy promenade by the water of the Eastern Megacity.

“Since the management has not yet made emergency plans or a training course for dealing with this type of incident, the employees of our branch could not recognize anomalies on site or maintain the safety of the food environment,” it said.

The restaurant said that between February 24th and March 8th, compensation for all customers would offer over 4,100 orders of the business, which corresponds to a full reimbursement plus a lump sum of 10 times.

Shanghai said that two 17-year-olds, the tang and WU surname, were stated in “administrative detention”.

China's age of criminal responsibility is 16 for most crimes, but can only be 12 for great crimes like Murder.

-Lip smacking broth

Haidilao, who are popular in China because of its fresh bite of meat, lip jack and congenial service, has expanded overseas in recent years. Locations in the USA, Japan, Great Britain and elsewhere.

But his Mea Culpa received a short shrift on Weibo, where the users accused the company to carry their feet for weeks before recognizing their mistake.

“Where was this (sorry) at the beginning? If it hadn't been better to say this from the start, “said a comment.

Others aimed at an earlier explanation – now apparently deleted – that blamed “malignant information path character” to ensure that the company's reputation is harmful.

The scandals for food safety were once common in China, where in 2008 the spoiled milk formula made hundreds of thousands of babies sick and was associated with six deaths.

The country has made considerable improvements since then, but the misconduct in the catering industry is still appearing.

A prominent chain of braised chicken restaurants apologized this week, after state media uneasy practices in some of its franchise stores, including the use of rotting ingredients and recycling remaining meals.
