The medical cannabis sale from Kentucky could begin as soon as in summer

After medical cannabis was officially legalized in Kentucky on January 1, 2025, preparations among the potential operators come shortly before the end.

According to local news publication Local 12who spoke to the executive director of the state's medical cannabis program, Sam Flynn, would have granted final permits to the producers within the next two months.

While he failed to give a certain date for the start, he said: “I would definitely hope that we will have at least in a few parts of the state of cannabis by the end of the year.”

Rachel Roberts, a former state legislator and head of the coalition of the Kentucky Cannabis Industry, suggested that sales could take place a little later this summer.

Since the beginning of the year, a reported 7,000 Kentuckian have applied for medical cannabis cards, with the vast majority of them being approved.

While Kentucky has secured a waiver of the distribution of medical cannabis sailing, potential breeders are still waiting for the final release before they can start growth.

Such a company is Cresco Labs, which recently announced that it has received an animal -trial cultivation license in the state and enables it to manage and operate a 25,000 m² growth plant.

As one of only two companies that receive this comprehensive license in Kentucky, this is expected that this will be the largest institution in the state. The current legislation only enables a maximum of 115.00 m² in the entire state.

“The cultivation license enables the construction of a state -of -the -art cultivation system with up to 25,000 square foot canopy, so that we can deliver the quality and scale for which we are known. In the past two years we have focused on consolidating the core and increasing our free cash flow, ”said Charlie Bachtell, CEO of CResco Labs.
