The Middletown High School welcomes Dario Highsmith Jr. as a Cheffussball coach

Dario Highsmith Jr., the Middletown High School football program returns as head coach. He played there as a player and won the Gatorade player of the year.

Middletown, Conn. – Dario Highsmith Jr. was appointed the new head coach of the Middletown High School.

He completed the school in 2015 and returned to lead the program in which he once played the leading role. In 2013-2014 Highsmith was the Connecticut Gatorade Football player of the year.

Highsmith visited Wesleyan University, where he played football and graduated in African Americans in 2020.

Highsmith was most recently active for Wesleyan Football and helped the Cardinals for the NescAC championship 2023. Previously, he trained at the Don Bosco Preparatory School.

Professionally, Highsmith is a program coordinator and Lead Recruiter for Wesleyan Upward Bound, a position that enables him to look after high school students.

According to Highsmith, there is a dream to come home to train the Middletown High School.

“This program shaped me both as a athlete and as a person, and now I'm looking forward to paying it forward,” he said. “The Highsmith family has deep roots here, and it means that the world contributes to the future of the community. We are building more than football players – we develop young managers who have a positive influence. This is about legacy and what gave us so much.”

The sports director of Middletown Public Schools, Elisha de Jesús, praised Highsmith's passion and experience.

“Dario understands what it means to be a blue dragon,” he said. “His experience as a player and coach gives him a unique perspective that benefits our student athletes. His passion, knowledge and commitment to their development make him perfect to guide our football program.”

The superintendent of the Middletown Public Schools, Dr. Alberto Vázquez Matos is also happy about Highsmith's return and finds that he is a mentor and representative of the district.

“Dario's journey from Star player to head coach illustrates the excellence, which we strive for in public schools in Middletown,” said Vázquez Matos. “His return represents our commitment to” growth of our own “.”
