The opening of arguments shows details in the shooting case | News, sports, jobs

Lauren Wickman, public prosecutor's office by Noah Johnson Daily Press Delta County, is preparing to show the jury a surveillance video of the day on which the shootout took place.

Escanaba trial against a man who allegedly shot his ex-father-in-law began on Monday after the jury was selected.

Jacob Cronick, 29 years, now by Bark River, is charged less physically than murder or by strangulation because of a count of crimes and an intention to attack.

The charges come from the incident in the 8311 County Road 416 J Road. Cronick previously lived in the residence, but he has moved since then.

The jury – consisting of 12 people, six men and six women – heard the opening statements of each page for the first time. The jury also watched a video of the incident.

The incident took place on January 21, 2024 when Cronick's ex-wife Alexandria “Alex” Parrotta came to Cronick's residence to get some of her things out of the garage. Your divorce was completed in December 2023.

According to information that was given in an open dish, her friend Chris Dubord and a work friend, Cody Richards, arrived in Cronick's residence shortly after 10 a.m., and the two men drove separately and arrived one after the other.

In addition to objects in the garage, Alex also wanted to call up a tractor and called a local pitching company when she arrived at the accommodation.

Shortly after Alex, Dubord and Richards arrived in Cronick's house, Alex 'father Eric Parrotta and her uncle John Parrotta arrived in a truck to help the other three loads from Alex'.

Cronick and Eric did not like each other and were not good what was recorded by Cronick and Dubord, as well as a surveillance material of a home monitoring camera that was positioned on the driveway.

When Cronick saw Eric in his entrance, he approached him and told him that he couldn't be on his property. Cronick started taking on his cell phone and focused on his conversation with Eric.

In the video you can hear Eric that he is there to help his daughter, what Cronick leads to say Eric that he is not interested in it. Eric then asks Cronick to call the sheriff, and the dispute between the two continues.

During the argument, Alex Dubord asked to start with the recording, and he did about a minute before he went out of the garage back to objects. Alex and Eric continue to argue with Cronick.

Eric and Cronick shook briefly when Cronick Eric gave up his hands and tried to make him leave property. Alex can be heard on the video that Cronick says she shouldn't touch her father, and Cronick answers by saying: “I told him to go.” Alex replies that she didn't care what he asked, and it dared to touch her father again.

Eric said he was there to make sure that Cronick had not injured his daughter again and referred to an earlier incident between Alex and Cronick. Cronick denied that Alex ever harm and said he had messages to prove that she actually beat him.

After the explanation, Eric Cronick's cell phone hit his hand. Cronick reached for Eric and hit him on the hood of Alex 'car that was parked in front of the garage.

John and Richards were involved in the argument, with Richards Cronick putting in a choke pit. Dubord was also involved and tried to delete Eric Cronick, but he finally left the dispute. Eric was able to become free and began to move away from the garage, while John, Cronick and Richards still had an argument.

Cronick freed himself and stepped back before he laid back to the men who held a pistol. Cronick met Richards with his hand who held the pistol, and then pushed Alex, who had started to approach him.

John can be seen as he holds his hand in the video before Cronick fired a shot on Eric and hit him in his stomach. The ball left its left side.

After the five people left the property, Cronick grabbed his phone and called 911. He left the gun in the house, unloaded and waited for the officials to arrive. He explained to the responding civil servants that it was in self -defense and was later arrested after officials received a search command for the surveillance material.

During the opening statements, the public prosecutor of Delta County, Lauren Wickman, informed the jurors that it was their job to determine whether Cronick was undoubtedly guilty and said they would hear from several witnesses in the coming days.

“You are asked to answer certain questions in order to meet the elements that I have to prove to you. I would (that you) keep an eye on these questions if you hear the certificate, watch the videos and see all the evidence that will be presented in the next few days. “ Said Wickman.

She said that the defense, led by lawyer Michael Boyle, would argue that Cronick deviated from self -defense when the incident occurred.

“The standard where the court will instruct it is whether the defendant honestly and reasonably believe that he was in danger of being killed or seriously injured by Eric Parrotta.” she said.

She told the jury that she should keep an eye on certain questions in this determination, e.g.

“I think at the end of this process I will ask you to think the defendant of Count One is guilty, the attack with the intention of causing big bodily harm and two to count the crime weapon. Thank you very much,” she said.

Boyle began his opening statements by dividing Cronick's perspective from that day and said he was afraid and acted in self -defense.

“Jake (cronick) acted in self -defense, but he stands here in front of you and asks someone else, stands for him.” Said Boyle.

He asked the jury to imagine, to be cronick, and was afraid of his life after he had fallen for over 20 seconds with the threats of “Let him sleep”, “ Richards heard what the defense claimed when he was captured by Alex 'vehicle.

“Imagine my customer in the safety of his own entrance was suddenly besieged by five people who had started a malignant attack. He was suffocated and not only left him physically vulnerable, but also mentally overwhelmed by the attack. “ Said Boyle.

He argued that Cronick's thoughts in the middle of chaos were overtaken by fear and real conviction that one or more of the five people was armed. Boyle said when Cronick climbed, he heard someone say: “He has his, I get mine”, “ And saw one of the men who opened their truck.

When Boyle described the incident, Cronick seemed visibly annoyed how he had created the events of the day.

“As we said, this takes place in Jake's driveway. This is the home where you should feel safe, but he certainly didn't feel safe. “ said Boyle.

Boyle pointed to the state “Put your land statute” What indicates an individual does not have back to withdraw and applies to Cronick and his actions. Boyle also spoke about Cronick's actions with the law enforcement authorities after the incident.

“When the officials arrived, he invited them because it was so cold. He told him where the firearm was. He was cooperative, he was professional, he was polite and he was still afraid. “ Said Boyle.

After Wickman opened arguments, he called Dubord to the witness stand.

Wickman went through the surveillance material and identified every person who performed the property on TV that morning.

Dubord said he thought the process of getting Alex 'would take about 10 minutes. Then he said he was watching the argument between Eric and Cronick when Alex asked him to record the confrontation. He finally fell the recording when two disputes had and began to get more objects out of the garage.

Boyle enriched screenshots with time stamps on the incident to determine how long cronick was suffocated. Video material notes that Cronick was suffocated for about 20 seconds, contrary to a first statement by Dubord that Cronick was suffocated for 45 seconds.

Dubord said that was his memory at that time and everything happened so quickly at the moment.

“Indeed, so quickly that her initial memory was that Jake, as soon as Jake pulls out the Choke -Hold, pulled out his gun and shot immediately.” Said Boyle.

Dubord said it was his belief at that time.

The court was postponed after a 10-minute break due to technical questions. The procedure will be brought back to the stand with Dubord at 9 a.m. to check forwarding by the public prosecutor.
