The parade to St. Patrick's Day in New Haven produces massive crowds

New Haven, Conn. (Wfsb) – The day of St. Patrick is back on Monday and at the weekend celebrations in our state.

The largest free single day viewer event in Connecticut begins in New Haven on Sunday afternoon.

It is a great celebration of Irish culture and inheritance and one here in New Haven that has been taking place for 183 years.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade of the city attracts a large amount of thousands in the city center all day.

Several streets in the area are closed, including the Church Street near the green, which are typically closed around 6 a.m.

The parade begins on the corner of the Chapel Street and the Sherman Avenue.

The route is almost one and a half miles long and takes three hours for the parade to fit.

Although the parade starts at 1:30 p.m., there is a lot to do beforehand.

The Trinity Bar opens on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to serve breakfast. Other businesses open up earlier than normal.

From 12 noon to 2 p.m. there is also a family celebration in front of the library in the Elm Street in the Elm Street
