The police authority of the province of Gyongnam announced on the 16th that the Minor Crime Review Committee checked 30 cases in the previous month and reduced all cases. All 30 criminal matters have been changed to summary legal proceedings.

In November last year, a woman was caught by the police in the fifties after winning 50,000 beef from a mart. As a mother with children who fought against cancer, this woman committed the crime after having gone through difficulties without adequate work.

The police reduced A to a summary judgment, whereby the fact was taken into account that he had no similar criminal records and reimbursed the damage.

In January, a woman was arrested in the 70s because he wore three bags in a stroller in the hallway of a villa in Jinhae-Gu, Changwon. It was found that the woman believed that it was an abandoned object and committed the crime to pay for life by selling a junk shop.

The police reduced the woman to a lesser extent, taking into account the fact that she also had no similar criminal records and thought about the crime.

Theft is a typical type of crime under livelihood. On the basis of the crime statistics analysis of the public prosecutor and the data of the criminal motif, 13,277 cases of theft occurred in 2023 “preparation costs”, the second only for “chance” (19,011 cases).

The police believe that the number of theft crimes of livelihood is higher than the actual number of reports. This is because there are many cases in which the victim does not report after listening to the miserable circumstances.

Oh eun-AH, the first head of the Gyongnam police authority, said: “Just because they committed a crime cannot be the only answer, especially for small livelihood crimes.”

Experts emphasize how important it is to name livelihood crimes and take preventive activities accordingly.

Choi Nak-Beom, professor of police administration at Seowon University, said in a work published by the Korean Police Research Association last year: “The ambiguity of the concept of life criminals is a limit that the police cannot even cancel minor crimes with very low damage.”
