The senior of St. Andrew, Zayden Edwards

Savannah, Ga. (WTOC) -It is always a great achievement when the high school basketball players meet the 1000 points mark in their career. Reaching 1,500 is so much more impressive. But even more than that while he breaks a record that stood for 25 years that cemented itself in the history books.

The senior of St. Andrew, Zayden Edwards, scored 25 points on Saturday at the Lions quarter -final victory of the Tiftare Academy. These 25 brought him more than the record of the program for his entire high school career at 1,655 points. The former school record of 1,650 points was determined 25 years ago by Evan Aldrich in 2000.

“(Evan and I) talked about FaceTime last night, and he was very encouraging – I said to myself continue to work hard, and it is proof of myself to win and also score points,” said Edwards. “I am humble. I am grateful. I thank God that I have put myself in the position that I am, my family, my friends – it's a bit of me, but much of the Lord and my side line -up. “

Edwards and the rest of the Lions will travel to Columbus State University on Wednesday to achieve their last Four Matchup against the Lakeview Academy – the same team that she switched off in the last four last year and then won the championship. But this time there is the feeling that it will be different.

“When we watch the film from last year, we have done enough to win the game for about 37 minutes, and in the last three minutes we just didn't play enough games,” said head coach Mel Abrams Jr. Faithful who we are defending, try to stick to a shot and then see where the chips fall. “

“There is a lot of emotions and a lot of desire and zeal to play them again because it was such a close game – the extension of two to lose two,” said Edwards. “We are only ready to come back, the school is ready to come back and play them and finally win them for the program and win them for school.”

The Lions tap the Lakeview Academy on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
