The Sheriff office of the St. Louis County offers tips for avoiding fraud

There were several victims of fraud over the northland, in which fraud sometimes went into the thousands of dollars.

There are different types of fraud, a common guy is “spoofing”. This technology concerns the fraudster who uses an apparently legitimate telephone number to pretend to be another person.

“The suspect informed our victim that a summons were missed and an arrest warrant for our victim had been issued and that they would have to make money available to avoid the arrest warrant. In this case, the victim was fraudulent a little more than 6,000 US dollars, said Zach Peterson, investigator of the sheriff of St. Louis County.

Another guy that Peterson has seen is known as “pig slides”. Here a fraudster is slowly building trust with the victim over the Internet. As soon as the trust is obtained, the fraudster will invest the victim, which is of course fraudulent.

“Our victim decided that he wanted to withdraw his money when it was fraudulent and actually no money was invested and that he had not received these returns. Here, too, all of these investments were made by a cryptocurrency of Bitcoin, and in this case our victim was over 300,000 US dollars. “

While there are many fraud that you have to pay attention to, Peterson and the sheriff's office gave out a list of tips to stay vigilant with the citizens.

Red flags that something can be fraud:
