The State Florida loses a heartbreaker to UVA

After both teams in the ACC tournament fought for a goodbye next week, Florida State (16-13, 7-12) had a hotly contested battle in Charlottesville against the Virginia Cavaliers (15-15, 8-11) 60-57. The seminols, who played without their second leading goal scorer, led them for a large part of the last 8 minutes, but they couldn't play enough games on the track to complete the deal. As for a large part of this season, the struggles of the state of Florida, which defended the three, proved too expensive to overcome them. Uva had three boys 3+ three.

First half:

As you could expect in a game against UVA, it was a slow start if no team achieved almost the first two minutes. The Freshman Big Man Alier Maluk, who filled out for the injured Malique Ewin, broke the Nil-Nil tie when it was rewarded for the running of the floor. But Uvas Isaac McKney gave the Cavaliers a 3-2 lead and it was the first of three three to make them in the next few minutes. This enabled Virginia to take a lead of 11: 8 in the U16, which only came after the 14-minute brand.

Christian Nitu, another newcomer, came in and made a difference at both ends. The smooth Canadian showed an improved defensive consciousness and footwork in order to control UVA guards on successive possessions. In the meantime, he achieved two simple baskets on the edge of the beautiful pick-and-rolls at the other end and then made another layup after a strong offensive impact in traffic. Nitus six In terms of time points, the FSU gave a lead of 14-13, which Jerry Deng extended to 16-13 on a mid-range jumper, where he was just climbing and shot over a smaller defender.

The Nolen could have continued to push the lead, but somehow it managed to draw technical fouls after two different baskets. The first led to Jamir Watkins going to the bench. The second gave Uva a free point and then a three-ball, which brought the HOOS back the lead with 19-18 with 8:09.

The team played the basketball back and forth in the next four minutes. The segment was a microcosm of the entire half: Uva scored from the surrounding area, often in wide appearance; The FSU has caused its damage in the color, whereby the offensive recovery dominated that carried out the heavy lifting. Taylor Bol Bowen met a few free throws to achieve the FSU with 5:46 on the left a 25-24 lead, and the Noles had a number of good looks to possibly open a labor margin. Instead, Florida State missed his next 6 shots.

Fortunately for the seminols, Uva was just as cold and the score was 25-24 three minutes later. Justin Thomas finally broke the icy route with a corner three to make it 28-24, but Uva countered with the points that soon brought the old-fashioned path towards it, and it was again a point FSU lead. No team has taken a good view of it in the last 45 seconds and there was 28-27 State Florida during the break.

Overall, Virginia shot badly and only went off the field of 10-27 when the defense of the FSU made life inside. In the first 15 minutes, the NOL Perimeter defense routinely protected, so that Uva 5-12 could shoot from the depths. In the first half, everything revolved around the color for the Noles. Nitu and Maluk have put together 12 points in 6-7 shootings and the FSU scored 20 of their 28 points inside.

Second half:

The second half opened with a reversal of roles, with the UVA used a false adjustment in the color from a switch, which led to two straight baskets to achieve a 31-28 lead. Florida State quickly connected it to deep three by Daquan Davis, his first points of the game.

But Virginia returned in the next two possessions to her first half way with nothing but net -free and gave the Hoos a lead of 37: 31 at the U16. These were Virginias 6. And 7. Three of the game. The Cavaliers made it 41: 33 on their 8th three of the game after a blocked shot, which somehow landed in the hands of a wide-open Uva shooter.

The FSU lowered the deficit to 43-39, but Uva benefited from the third technical/flagrant foul of the game, which called the State Florida after Watkins had been hit by a defender on the chin during a rather normal shooting movement. This made it possible Virginia to push it directly to 6 points, 45-39. The seminols would not stop. Jamir Watkins cut off the lead in half with a deep three, then after an offensive rebound after a Bol Bowen -Miss on one.

A steal at the next possession led to two more points of the second chance when Nitu followed a missed layup with a two -hand jam and put the FSU in front of it for the first time since the opening minute of the second half. The Cavaliers took the lead again at a driving layup, but Bol Bowen looked for a great time to play his first game, and drilled a three out of the wing to give FSU a 49-47 lead of 6:59. But once again the Hoos took the lead with three own, their 9th of the game.

In the next two minutes and change, the teams exchanged empty owners with Point Blank -Misses on the edge at both ends. The drought was canceled by a corner three from Davis when the shooting clock ran and the FSU jumped back to the lead of 52-50. It was fsus 5. Half made half. Watkins divided a couple on the line to expand the head start of the state of Florida to three with less than 4 minutes before the contract. This tour would hardly take a minute, with Uva brought them together on the 10th of the night. Changing layups of both teams made it 55-55 with 1:55 left and Leonard Hamilton described a time crossing.

From the break, the FSU had to be satisfied with a further late attempt by Davis, but it was not good. At the other end, Uva turned the tables with a Scramble game, fell three away when the shooting clock went out to provide Uva a 58-55 lead, and her first tour in almost 6 minutes. Watkins cut it on a breakaway Dunk with only 11 seconds lead to 58-57, but uva it pushed back to three with two free throws. The State of Florida has committed an insulting foul on a passport within the limits of 3.3 seconds, and that was.

Box score and snack bar:

  • This was certainly the most effective Christian nitu all season. The newcomer brought his career high of six points in the first half alone, but in addition he actually looked on the square and in the system. Yes, Virginia's post players are below average. Nevertheless, it is nice to see that boys take clear steps forward during the season. A great praise to him and the staff.
  • If the FSU had the opportunity to prevent conference opponents from three open looks, the Noles might have won 20 or 21 games this season. Unfortunately, the staff seems to use hell to use a system that enabled the ACC opponents to make more than 8 threes in 14 out of 19 games. For comparison: Florida State made more than 8 three threes in just 5 ACC games.

The State Florida returns to Tallahassee to be an emotional senior day against the Smu Mustangs. Apart from an unlikely appearance in NIT, Leonard Hamilton (and probably also Stan Jones) will train his last game in Donald L. Tucker Center. So forget our record this year and the fights in recent years. When you are in Tallahassee, come out and show some love for a real legend.

The game taps on Saturday, March 8th, at 4:00 p.m.
