The state of the Pope is stable day after the respiratory crisis

Vation City (CNS) – Pope Francis stayed in a stable state and did not suffer any further respiratory path episode a day after an “isolated crisis of bronchospasm”, which deteriorated his previously improved medical condition, said the Vatican.

Nevertheless, the Pope's doctors said in Rome in Rome's Rome that his “forecast was still guarded”.

With the crisis of February 28, the 88-year-old Pope Francis began “non-invasive mechanical ventilation” a treatment, which delivers air with additional oxygen with a densely adapted facial mask using the positive pressure to support the breath.

By March 1, however, he was able to switch between mechanical ventilation and flood oxygen therapy that was administered by a nasal cannula, said the Vatican in his evening medical bulletin.

The Pope had no fever, he added, and he showed no sign of leukocytosis – an increased number of white blood cells that can indicate infections or inflammation.

The bulletin said that the measurements in connection with the blood flow of the Pope remained stable and that he continued “breathing physiotherapy”, which often contains breathing exercises. The Vatican said that Pope Francis “actively worked with his therapy”.

The bulletin dated March 1 also explained that the Pope had eaten further, and a Vatican source confirmed that he could still eat solid foods even after the bronchospastic crisis of the preservation. “He does not receive intravenous feeding, said the source.

Pope Francis received the Eucharist in the afternoon and devoted himself to prayer during the day, said the Vatican. The source added that the Pope prayed for 20 minutes in the chapel of the suite of rooms that were reserved for the popes in the Gemelli Hospital.

The bulletin of 1 March did not mention the Pope, who worked during the day, in contrast to Bulletins from the past few days.

A source of the Vatican said that the Pope's message for accompanying Sunday Angelus was published online and is not delivered by the Pope to meet the two previous Sundays.

Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for Eastern Churches, was to lead the recitation of the rosary in the Vatican director on March 1st. Due to the rain, the prayer should have gathered for the Pope since February 24, in which hundreds had gathered every night to pray for the Pope.

On February 28, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis would not lead his traditional ash on Wednesday services in Rome and that instead the traditional procession and mass, which marks the beginning of Lent, is celebrated by Cardinal Angelo de Donatis, the main official or the head of the Apostolic Court, a church matters.
