The sun was shining when spring football started in Pullman on Saturday.

The cougs took the field for their first spring practice under head coach Jimmy Rogers.

Pullman, Wash. – “The focus, communication, the willingness to end every single piece, all of these things, and that we are technically improving,” said Rogers.

The energy was high and the team started the season with almost two hours of training. Rogers said the success of the spring season was driving on her to maintain this energy.

The state of Washington has only a few important returnees on an otherwise brand new squad. More than 20 of the names listed are transfers, including almost 15 that followed Jimmy Rogers from the state of South Dakota. Since these guys are familiar with Rogers' style, they have taken on a leadership role.

“We said that we wanted to show the other boys what coach awaits,” said Matt Durrance.

One of the most important returnees who takes on a leadership role this year is a quarterback Zevi Eckhaus, who said it was an adaptation to Rogers' practice style, but it is a good one.

“You always fly around,” said Eckhaus. “There are really no breaks, which is good. Here and there you have a second to get some water, but everything, we move quickly, we try to use every single minute that we have to practice. He made a point that we have to be more conditioned and we will work on these things. “

The cougs have 13 more spring exercises before they completed the spring season with their purple and gray game on April 12th.
