The U.S. Ministry of Education opens up the examination of the Tumwater School District

The U.S. Education Ministry of Education started an investigation by the title IX in the Tumwater School District after a transgender girl from Shelton had played in a basketball game by the High School Girls last month.

The branch of the department office for civil rights opened the investigation on Friday.

This happens after the foundation has submitted a complaint in the name of a 15-year-old basketball player against intolerance and racism or fair. In the complaint, the district is claimed to discriminate against the player when she “withdrawn a fair sporting opportunity by allowed a male player in an opposing basketball team to compete against the student team”.

The “male player” trade fair to which referenced is a transgender girl and is not identified as male.

By letting her play, she forced the student to play fairly [for whom the complaint was filed] to withdraw from the participation in the game, “and prompted this student and her brother to” be exposed to intimidation and retaliation “.

This happens weeks after President Donald Trump has issued an executive regulation that includes transgender girls and women in competition in women's sports. Fair is the organization that the complaint has submitted, a national organization that fights, among other things, against diversity and inclusion programs. The organization's website describes itself as “challenging threats to bourgeois freedoms through identity -based practices”.

In response to the complaint, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the state management committee for the middle and high school sport, said it would be waiting for legal guidance before making changes. The state superintendent Chris Reykdal described the order as a federal crossing, which “directly contradicts” state laws that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity.

The existing guidelines of the superintendent's office for public lessons state that the schools have the opportunity to take part in the Interscholastic Sports team, including transgender and non -binaric students, that corresponds to their gender identity. “

On Monday, a spokesman in Reykdal's office said that they are “concerned” from the investigation and that they will monitor them carefully, but will not change this guide, “unless the law changes”.

The deputy deputy secretary for civil rights, Craig Trainor, said in a press release on Monday that the investigation “proves that the Department of Trump education will energetically enforce the title IX to ensure that men stop taking part in women's sports.”

“If Washington continues to receive federal funds from the department, the Federal Law must follow it,” he wrote.

In an explanation on Monday, the Tumwater School District said that the officials “take this matter seriously and undertake to work with OCR to clear the concerns in the complaint.”

“Our priority has always been to create a safe, inviting and integrative learning environment for all students, families and employees,” wrote a spokesman. “Although we cannot discuss specific details due to the confidentiality requirements, we take all concerns seriously and remain the continuous improvement of our schools.”

The district received the investigation of the school authority for the support of two proposals, which the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is considering, one day after the election of the school authority.

A proposed change of rule would ban transgender girls to participate in girls' sports. The other would create a separate CO-ED department in which trans students could compete instead. The Wiaa meeting is expected to vote on these proposals in April.

The current Wiaa directive enables trans students to participate in sports programs that are compatible with their gender identity. Politics was the first of its kind in the nation when it was founded in 2007.
