The Wilmington police receive scholarship for drug investigation instruments

Wilmington, MA – The Wilmington police authority received a federal grant in the amount of $ 30,000 with which a spectrometer was bought for the support of medicinal products.

The detectachem apex Raman spectrometer quickly and precisely identifies substances, including medicines in the field.

“The tool is portable and user-friendly and enables the officials to carry out non-destructive narcotics tests on site, to shorten the response time and minimize risks that are associated with the treatment of potentially dangerous drugs,” said a police explanation.

The system also stores data that strengthens the legal integrity of examinations and provides real-time evidence for the support of arrests and search commands.

The Detective of Drug Task Force, Michael Patterson, applied for the grant. The scholarship reimburses the department for the purchase of the spectrometer, which costs $ 30,657.

“This device will play a crucial role in supporting pharmaceutical investigations and maximizing the success and efficiency of the department when keeping dangerous medication,” said Chief Joseph Desmond in a statement. “This financing is quite possible due to Detective Patterson's committed efforts. He has great work when writing the scholarship.”
