“This is the result of a good environment”

Tom Pidcock will be one of the favorites for victory at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad this Saturday, since the opening weekend starts the classical season for 2025. In view of the fact that he drives to the race in the best street form of his career, Pidcock can even be seen as the man to beat.

“I am very satisfied with what I am now and with my shape. From here I can improve,” evaluates the Q36.5 Pro Cycling team leader of a season start that has already had 4 victories in an interview with Wielerflits. “We also stay careful because we don't push any further now. I just had a pretty quiet week because we don't want to hurry into the season because of this super good start. It is still a very long season.”

When Pidcock has the question of whether the Ineos Grenadiers was a catalyst for his success, he refuses to publicly reject his former employers. “Watch out, I also won some great races at Ineos Grenadiers, right? Also much bigger, “he shot back.” Good figures are one thing, but last winter I mainly became a better driver. I am again the driver who was a professional in my first years. “

“This is the result of a good environment with a new nutritionist and a new trainer alongside Kurt Bogaerts. That made a big difference for me. These are two people who had a big influence. It was a fresh start with fresh motivation to look at all the details,” he continues. “It is a new challenge that I packed with both hands. It gives me energy. It was very easy to adapt to the team. When I joined the team, I also saw the motivation with all these boys and 100 % commitment to do it in my own way. It is very nice to see.”

Pidcock won his first GC victory on the Alula Tour

And as already mentioned, things could hardly have been better. “It was very important for me to start immediately, and I did it. I would like to take it with the classics. But I also have a kind of” way of thinking “that I forget such things and concentrate on the future and the upcoming breeds. That was at least a good preparation with days when you had to deliver a lot of electricity. The alula tour was a bit different. Classics, I also know that my shape is very good.

“I mainly want to know how to get on the climbs. That will largely determine my feeling after the omloop, “concludes Pidcock.” If I cut off well on the hills, I will definitely be happy. That would be a big improvement compared to the previous year. Delivering the strength in the saddle is not my specialty. If I have improved in it, we did a good job. “
