This week in Südflorida: Tom Hudson

Florida is mainly considered a low tax state because there is no personal income tax.

What financed public security, parks, schools and libraries, cutting the grass and filling the potholes?

Two thirds of all who are paid for by their property taxes and sales tax. Would you vote to eliminate basic taxes?

Last week, a Senator from Fort Myers submitted a legislation to study exactly that, and if you heard the governor in the past few weeks, this is no surprise.

In a social media post, the governor steered country and property as “depressing” and “ineffective”.

At the state level, there is no authority to remove property taxes, which is a decision by the district.

But you can change a constitutional amendment, and that is exactly what the new draft law would start to study.

Tom Hudson reports on the South Florida Economy as Senior Economics Editor at WLRN and came in Südflorida host Glenna Milberg this week to discuss. Your discussion can be seen on the top of this page
