Thornton shooting, arson is examined as a double murder | Crimes and justice

Two days after the Thornton police department had found two people in a house fire, the incident is examined as a double murder.

“On February 28, the ongoing investigative efforts in this case resulted in information that confirms that this case is a double murder,” said the police authority in a social media post on Friday.

On Wednesday evening, the officials reacted to a house fire in the 16300 block of the Columbine Street. The officers found a 58-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man who was dead in the house with obvious gunshot wounds.

The fire was included on Thursday at 12 p.m.

Preliminary investigations on Thursday noted that the fire was deliberately determined, but additional details on the shootings were not available at that time, the police said. Now, two days later, the incident was considered a double murder.

The department did not publish any further information about the investigation and said that they are still working on collecting suspicious information.

The Coroner's Office of the Adams County will identify the two victims and the causes of death after investigations.

Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to contact the Thornton police department under number 720-977-5069.
