Topkans paint the city with the early St. Patrick's Day celebrations green

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) – The streets of the Topeka ran green with early celebrations of St. Patrick's Day.

The day started with the Irish festival, a celebration of Irish culture and everything that stands for. For Topeka Irish residents, this vacation means everything.

“I think it only means getting together and having a good time with your family and friends,” said Kaylan McMeen, participant in the Irish festival.

The highlights of the morning included live music, a 5 -km race, classic Irish dishes and a lot of dance.

When the parade the Kansas Ave. Roll down, she offered something sweet for everyone. Many children said they were most excited about the sweets.

“I hope to get sweets and see all the cars disguised,” said Vachi Triplet.

For many, these celebrations are a time to unite with relatives.

“We have probably teamed up with our children for 15 to 20 years,” said Allison more. “Our children are now all gone and had to come together.”

Others enjoy continuing the long -term tradition.

“We have come here in the past 20 or 30 years,” said Charlie Leathers. “It is just a tradition to get out of here and see our friends and family and enjoy a great day.”

But for a parade visitor, this was an opportunity to start a new tradition.

“It's wonderful here in Topeka,” said Sandra Vassell. “Jamaica comes from another country, only the ambience, the people, it is so wonderful to be here.”

She described the celebrations as full of joy and beauty-the Holy Spirit of St. Patrick Day lives in Topeka.

“I think the spirit will always be here,” said Vachi Triplet. “I think all the food will be fine and I think everyone will have a great time.”
