Towera, which loses thousands of gallons against leaks in the water system every day

Tourand, Kan. (Kwch) – A community in Butler County loses thousands of gallons water every day due to old pipes. 12 News followed the history of Tanda for a year after the city had found several leaks in its water system last February. The city of Tandwanda has been fighting against its own water system for a year.

“We still lose a lot of water. We lose about 40,000 gallons a day, ”said Andy Newbrey, Administrator of Tanda City. “So about every three or four days we lose enough water to fill an Olympic swimming pool.”

Solid water leak leads to persistent problems, expensive solution for Tandawauma

One of the biggest leaks last year took place at the intersection of Third and Cincinnati. The city of Tanda has managed to close this leak and make improvements, but the city said that fixing every leak does not solve the bigger problem: the entire system must be replaced.

“Many of our water pipes are 100 years old, 80 to 100 years old. For example, they were entered in 1910, 1911. So (with) many of the galvanized pipes, the scaling dives and when this happens, it puts a hole in the line and water comes out, ”said Newbrey.

The city of millions of dollars could cost the system to be replaced by millions of dollars, so that it applies for grants. The city has already received one from the Kansas Water Office for more than 300,000 US dollars. Tandwanda also proposes a single -tower of the one -time renovation to collect donations for the project in November.

“I would be for it. When someone who has not earned a decent piece of money for some time, a cent does not sound as much, not so much, especially to ensure that TandaWa can remain afloat, ”said Jefferson-Gannon, Tanda Resident Chance.

On March 26, Tanda will hold a workshop to discuss the design for a new water system with the city council, the city engineers and consultants.

12 messages have also turned to the governor of the governor of Kansas and the state representative of the area to determine whether there are additional emergency funds to support situations like this. We are waiting to hear back from Thursday evening.
