Trump reveals the date on which the USA will impose 25% tariffs on Mexico, Canada

Washington, DC:

US President Donald Trump seems to have postponed the deadline for the 25 percent tariffs for Mexican and Canadian goods that import America. Before his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Trump admitted that illegal border crossings in the United States have declined from Mexican and Canadian borders, but emphasized that he would not prevent him from lifting taxes on American neighbors.

“We have lost millions of people because of Fentanyl. It mainly comes from China, but it comes through Mexico and it comes through Canada. And I have to tell you that the tariffs continue on April 2 … and I think you will see something that will be amazing,” he said.

This is a 30-day break for duties for Canada and Mexico, which Mr. Trump bound to the USA with illegal border crossings and the flow of fentanyl to the USA will take place on March 4.

When a reporter asked if he would continue the break for tariffs, since there was a “90 percent decline in border crossings” since his threat, the president said: “I do not stop the tariffs, no. Millions of people are because of the fentanyl who comes across the border … yes, they were also good, but that is also that we are appropriate to ourselves.”

President Trump's comments prompted the value of the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso to Greenback.

The Canadian Minister of Innovation Francois-Philippe Champagne said reporters said that Canada would wait for Mr. Trump's signed instructions before the reaction.

“Our mission is still to avoid the tariffs to extend suspension when we need,” said Champagne. “We are prepared – there will be a targeted, strategic but fixed reaction” when Mr. Trump imposes tariffs.

The Mexican Ministry of Economic Affairs refused to comment on President Trump's comments, but said that Economics Minister Marcelo Ebrard would meet on Thursday with the newly confirmed US trade representative Jamieson Greer and Commercial Secretary Howard Lutnick on Friday.

Trump sets a deadline for mutual tariffs

Mr. Trump also aimed at the beginning of April because he imposed mutual tariffs that correspond to the import duties of the other countries and compensate for their other restrictions.

When asked whether he decided on a tariff set for goods from the European Union, the president replied: “We made a decision and we will announce it very soon, and it will generally be 25%, and that will be on cars and all things.”

He said the EU was a “different case” from Canada and takes advantage of the United States in different ways.

“They do not accept our cars. They do not accept our agricultural products,” said Trump, adding that the EU was formed “to kidnap the United States.”

A spokesman for the European Commission said that the EU will react “firmly and directly against unjustified obstacles to free and fair trade”, including for tariffs, which question legal and non -discriminatory guidelines.

“The European Union is the world's largest free market. And it was a blessing for the United States,” said the spokesman.
