Two Kansas football players leave the program

Two Kansas Football players have left the program and are currently stepping back from football. Cornerback Damarius McGhee and line backers Tristian Fletcher are no longer part of the program. Both players would enter their senior season in 2025 with the KU program, but decided to move away from football.

“You are no longer on the squad and will end the school.” Lance Leipold Said after Ku's first spring exercises on Sunday. “I don't know your plans in the game. I think both will just graduate and take the next step at the moment. But we appreciate these young men. Both had difficulty staying healthy. Good young men, they both love their personality; very selfless, never a problem with attitude or work morality.”

McGhee was a big addition to KU, which came out of the transfer portal in the 2023 season. The Cornerback played as a real newcomer to LSU before entering redors and the transfer portal in his second season. McGhee came out of the high school in the 2021 class and chose LSU via offers from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and USC, to name just a few. He was one of the top 100 recruits in class 2021 according to 247Sports employees.

McGhees first season at KU was affected by a back injury. He played against Missouri State in 2023 at the start of the season, but he did not take the field again during the season. Last season McGhee played as a reserve cornerback in the first six games of the season and he had an average of about 10 snapshots per game. However, he suffered an injury and missed the rest of the season after Ku.

Before the 2022 season, Fletcher was a Juco supplement for KU. The LineBacker played the program in three games in his first season and earned a redefination. As a redefine in the second year in 2023, he played in three games, but overall only a handful of snapshots over the course of the season. Last year Fletcher played in the first six games of the season with a total of 16 snapshots in defense. He was also part of the kickoff reporting. But after the 6th week of the 6th week in the state of Arizona, he suffered an injury at the end of the end of the season and was not again.
