Two years after the fire residents, the Flint Housing Commission reopens the Forest Park Apartments

Flint, mi – a public housing complex on Flint's North Side has reopened more than two years after a fire that caused more than 1.4 million dollars damage.

The Flint Housing Commission announced the completion of the work in Forest Park Apartments in the King Avenue in a press release on Tuesday, February 25th.

FHC said the fire that took place on November 25, 2022, replaced 19 families who were relocated during the restoration and renovation of the complex.

According to the announcement, six apartments were directly affected by fire damage. All other units in the building had extensive smoke and water damage.

According to the FHC, the insurance paid partly for the restoration, the new windows, boilers, cupboards, floors, devices, surveillance cameras, a object system and mailboxes.

In addition to the repairs, the plot of outdoor grills and picnic tables were added.

“We are pleased to welcome our residents at home,” said David A. Northern, Chief Executive Officer from FHC, in a statement published by the agency. “This project was more than just about reconstruction – it was about restoring a feeling of security and community for these families.”

Several inhabitants returned to the building at the beginning of this month, according to the Commission's announcement.

Although the fire was originally reported as a possible intake, the fire brigade of Flint said at the time when nobody was injured in the fire, which began in an occupied unit in the complex.
