Urged to expand the life -saving blood program with the fire brigade of Birmingham

Birmingham, ala. (Wbrc) – The Birmingham Crime Commission is committed to expansion of Birmingham Fire & Rescue's thoroughbred program, which has made a significant contribution to saving victims from gunshot wounds and other emergencies.

Since its introduction in autumn 2023, the program has saved over 90 lives by enabling blood transfusions in the field. The expansion of this program would require an additional EMS supervisor.

“By administration of thoroughbred, we provide patients what they lose, in contrast to a replacement that does not contain oxygen, platelet or support clog. We are now able to stop hemorrhagic injuries in the field in a way that we have never been able to do before, ”explains Clay Hendon of the battalion boss Clay Hendon.

There is currently only one EMS supervisor that is entitled to carry out this life-saving procedure.

“This supervisor carries all the blood in her unity, which we keep cool to maintain its effectiveness and security. This person reacts from station 1 and covers the whole city, ”says Hendon. “This situation can lead to delays in achieving patients, especially if someone needs help on the east or west side of the city, since the blood is usually transported from the city center.”

Chef Hendon found that the The Von Chief Cory Moon was initiated at BFRS, the financing came directly from her budget. Their current goal is to work with the heads of the city to add an additional position that Hendon considers invaluable value.

“If we give patients with traumatic injuries who are in the Hypovolemic shock and possibly shortly before cardiac arrest, the effects are almost momentary. As soon as it begins in circulation, we see improvements in their color and blood pressure, and within minutes the patient can become conscious and vigilant, ”explains Hendon.

He emphasized that you would use data to determine the optimal area for adding another EMS supervisor. Your goal is to promote a lieutenant of this role and then to fulfill the position of the lieutenant.
