The public is invited to take part in an open house project on the evening of Monday, March 3, in order to learn more about the planned work, the project phases and the project plan.

“In the past year and a half, CDOT has worked the community together and should be listened to when this project progresses,” said Julie Constan, Manager of CDOT regionally. “Cooperation has led to a balance between the critical need for this project and an increased observance of the restriction of the effects during the construction. The project must maintain special provisions such as restricted work during school levies and collection times, communication with emergency and law enforcement drivers as well as the awareness of traffic volumes in the busy city center during the peak-pairs-tourist season. “

Phase work

The work from March includes the removal of existing stripes, the establishment of concrete barriers in the Main Street and then the traffic onto the existing alleys in the east (a trail in every direction). The two-way traffic is retained. After the traffic shift, the crews will dig out the existing road surface in a west direction and remove sidewalks, curbs and gutters. The first phase of the project is immersed in supply companies from 2nd street to 8th Street. The supply work from March includes replacement or improvements to water pipes, sewage pipes, gas lines, geothermal lines, communication and electrical management as well as the storm drainage system.

Traffic effects

The expected traffic effects from mid -March include:

• Drivers should expect delays from the work zone. In 2025, the two -lane traffic to the southern (eastern) side of the city center will be set, while the work is carried out on the side of the north (west). This process will be reversed in 2026. Drivers should expect closures as required, and regular traffic stops to move devices and materials.

• In bad weather, project engineers will evaluate the road and place of work to determine that the work will continue for workers and commuters, depending on the security concerns.

• Working hours are Monday to Friday, day and night and changes due to the project progress.

• Night work can occur temporarily during the duration of the project to reduce the effects of day traffic.

• Parking is not allowed in the work zone in the city center along US 160

Project background and advantages

The project replaces the current asphalt road with a new concrete road surface by the Pagosa Springs Downtown Business District. The work will be done in the summer time oisons 2025 and 2026 with an expected completion in autumn 2026. The project scope and the advantages include:

• Improved concrete road between the North 8th Street and the North 1st Street. The replacement of asphalt with concrete increases the lifespan and durability of the road, which requires lower frequent maintenance. Concrete is less susceptible to wear under strong traffic volume. Concrete is less susceptible to weather damage.

• Pedestrian curb with flashing signs near the 3rd street, the 2nd street and the 6th Street.

• Improvements of the ramps of the sidewalk with the Americans with disabilities.

• A collaborative partnership between CDOT, the city of Pagosa Springs and local supply companies to update and update supply companies on the street.

• Increase the safety of the drivers with a structured surface, which is not too black ice and lighter at night.
