US chemical board publishes new video and update in Watson Mahling explosion in the spring branch area

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – The US investigation authority for chemical security and hazard examinations provided further information about what caused the massive, fatal explosion in the Watson loops and manufacturers in 2020.

The city of Houston said that more than 450 houses and companies were damaged and three people were killed in the explosion. Many of the houses suffered extreme damage and some were outside the repair.

CSB published a new security video that represents its results from the investigation of the incident on January 24, 2020. The video entitled “No Detection: Explosion at Watson Grinding” contains an animation of events that lead to the incident.

The authorities found that the gas escaped from a hose when an employee switched on a light switch in the system and inflamed the gas.

The deadly propylene release and the explosion took place in the establishment of the Watson Grinding and Manufacturing Company, which was located in the Gessner and Clay Road near Highway 290 and Beltway 8.

Relatives: Neighbors reflect almost 2 years later about the explosion of the spring branches

Christine Chuma lost her home in an explosion in the spring branch almost two years ago. That day she lost a lot, but it led her to the man she will marry.

Gas recognition systems were present in Watson, but they were separated from a central computer system, which made it useless.

The CSB says that the management was said in writing that the system did not work – but that they didn't do anything.

After the explosion, the city of Houston tightened its regulation and review process in the hope that the disaster will never be repeated.

Watson grinding specializes in processing and grinding services as well as the applying of high -performance coatings – in particular oxygen fuel at high speed or HVOF, coating.
