Utep begins spring football practices

El Paso, Texas – The UTEP mountain people returned to Gridiron on Monday morning for the first day of the spring football practices.

It is just another step in the process because the team is preparing for the coming season 2025.

Utep head coach Scotty Walden will take his second season at the top of the miners.

He will search for a better performance in 2025 after his team ended with an overall record of 3: 9 in his first season at UTEP.

This year's UTEP squad will see more than 33 new players together with 67 returnees.

One of these newcomers is Utep Quarterback Malachi Nelson.

Nelson is a former recruit No. 1 in the recruitment class of ESPN 2023 and will try to fight the starting job.

This is Nelson's third station in his college career.

He played his first semester season at USC and fit for Boise State Broncos last season.

It joins a quarterback room that contains four QBS, in which the season for The Miners, Skyler Locklear, Cade McConnell, JP Pickles and Shay Smith were recorded last season.

The miners will practice every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with two Saturdays, including a scrimmage on April 5.

The spring game is Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in the Sun Bowl and is accessible to the public.
