Video of burning indonesia connections spark false claims in Bangladesh

Since the relationships between New Delhi and Dhaka still after the fall of the autocratic former guide of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, still shared a video in the nation of Muslim majority that they mistakenly say that a mosque shows on fire in neighboring India. An 18-second video is shared with a fire with a building and has been viewed for thousands of times since the upload on December 22, 2024.

The position appeared after Hindu activists tried to storm a small Indian city (Archived link).

The relationships between the two countries were organized in August by the uprising led by students, the Bangladesh's autocratic former leader Sheikh Hasina, who now lived in India.

The public mood in the Muslim nation of 170 million is still stacked against her neighbor of the Hindu majority, who was Hasina's main patron of Hasina during her 15-year rule of the Iron Fistel skin.

The video was shared elsewhere on Facebook together with the wrong claim.

However, the building in the video is actually a mosque in Indonesia and there were no official reports about mosques that were burned in India.

A Google Reverse image search with keyframes of the clip found a longer video that shows the similar scene in an Instagram post published on December 8, 2024 (archived link).

In the Indonesian -speaking caption of the post, it says “Luwuk Banggai Central Market Complex Fire”.

Further keyword search led to similar clips published by the Indonesian media organization Kompastv and its office in the province of Central Sulawesi, where the market is located (archived links here and here).

On December 8, 2024, KompastV reported that a large fire service market met Luwuk Central Market, which spread quickly and implemented a nearby mosque and more than a hundred cabins and stands.

The police said the preliminary probe shows that the fire was probably caused by a short circuit (archived connection).
